RS Aero Arrives at West Coast Sailing

RS Aero_Warehouse Photoshoot_1_blogsizeThe new year is off to a fast and exciting start with the long-awaited arrival of the new RS Aero. Our first container arrived several weeks ago and we were immediately impressed with the fit and finish of these new boats. If the international buzz around this boat is any indication, this is the first of many RS Aero shipments. We’re looking forward to getting these first boats out to eager owners and spending a bit of time on the water ourselves. Everyone around the office is looking forward to getting out and blasting around. The RS Aero was one of two boats we featured at the annual Portland Boat Show. This show is one of the smaller boat shows we attend but always an excellent event. In addition to the RS Aero, we also had the popular Hobie Wave on display.

Thank you to friends new and old who stopped by the booth to say hello and talk sailboats. It was great to see you! A huge thank you as well to our local print shop, Pro Ad Co, who worked overtime to create all of the signage. This is the best our display has ever looked! RS Sailing 2014 Round-Up

708

2014 was another remarkable year for RS Sailing. More RS boats are being sailed in North America than ever before, new events are being created, and excitement continues to grow. Here is a recap of the progress made in 2014 and a look at what is in store for 2015 and beyond.

RS Aero Lift Off

The RS Aero, shown in the photo above, launched in January at the London Boat Show. This groundbreaking single-hander has generated interest around the work with over 500 boats already sold. The first West Coast Aeros arrived just a few weeks ago with more on the way for early 2015. Read George’s review, as published by Scuttlebutt Sailing News.

RS Feva’s in San Diego

In March, Coronado Yacht Club hosted a first of it’s kind RS Feva Clinic. British RS Feva Coach Jonathan Lewis joined a group of keen young sailors for a weekend of instruction, racing, and fun. We have seen great interest in the RS Feva in Southern California and look forward to more events in 2015.

Visit to RS Sailing

In April, George and Phil traveled to the UK to visit the RS Sailing headquarters in Southampton. The boys toured their warehouse and offices, and had the chance to test sail the new RS Aero at Hayling Island.

The RS Feva also reached Hawaii this year, with it’s racing debut at the second annual Dinsmoor Trophy Regatta. Read a full write up on the event here.

Venture Keel Adaptive Sailing

RS Sailing introduced a keeled version of the popular RS Venture this year, and with it an innovative adaptive sailing package. With more and more programs offering disabled sailing courses, this new version is sure to make sailing an option for many new sailors.

A Look Ahead to 2015

The coming year promises to be an exciting one for RS Sailing in North America. We are excited to continuing working with RS to reach more sailors and help more people get out on the water. You can visit RS Sailing and representatives from West Coast Sailing at the 2015 U.S. Sailing Symposium in January in New Orleans, the Portland Boat Show, and at the annual Strictly Sail Boat Show in San Francisco in April. Scholastic Singlehanded Championships

ISSAlogo-webScholastic singlehanded sailing is coming to the Pacific Northwest this weekend. Both the high school and college singlehanded championships will take place on back to back weekends at Bellingham Yacht Club in a brand new fleet of Lasers. These events bring together the best scholastic sailors from around the country. Our very own Adam DiDomizio (Youth Development Team member) will be representing NWISA and Woodinville High School. We’re proud to be part of this event on multiple levels, including purchasing the entire 36 boat fleet after the champions have been decided.

The Cressy – 36 high school sailors from around the country will be competing in the Full Rig and Radial Rig for the National High School Singlehanded Championship trophy. These sailors earned a spot in this regatta by qualifying in their respective districts. Brand new boats are provided by Laser Performance to create an equal playing field. Sailors at this year’s event will go home with special edition water bottles from West Coast Sailing! Best of luck to all the competitors – we’re excited to follow the action.

Annapolis Boat Show and RS Dealer Meeting

Annapolis Boat Show 2014 boothGeorge and Phil headed east to attend the Annapolis Boat Show and RS Sailing Dealer meeting earlier this month. The Annapolis show is a must attend event for sailors and showcases the latest boats, apparel, hardware, and sailing accessories. It is also a great opportunity to catch up with our friends and colleagues from around the industry. We spent a rainy few days at the Boat Locker / RS Sailing booth, talking to interested sailors about the RS Sailing range. The stand looked impressive this year, with much interest focused on the 2015 Boat of the Year nominee, the new RS Aero. Check out this Sailing Anarchy interview with Riki Hooker from RS Sailing and get an inside look at this new singlehanded dinghy.

Annapolis Boat Show 2014 RS Venture TalkFollowing a quick teardown Monday evening, the crew moved the boats from the City Docks to neighboring Eastport Yacht Club for the annual North American dealer meeting. This is an opportunity for members of the RS community around the country to gather and get the latest info on boats, sailing activities, and new projects. George (pictured at left) helped walk the group through the new RS Venture, which has been particularly successful at clubs and programs on the West Coast. Seriously, it’s a riot! In addition to checking out the boats, we also had a chance to catch up with Carrie from Magic Marine. We’re looking forward to offering more of the Magic Marine product range here at West Coast Sailing.

Annapolis Boat Show 2014 RS AeroRS Sailing has won a number of Boat of the Year awards over the last few years (RS100 and RS Venture), and this year the new RS Aero is in contention. The hull pictured here is one of the first to land in North America and was used in the BOTY test sails in Annapolis. It was a rainy and blustery day, but overall impressions were outstanding! We had a great time test sailing the boats in the UK last spring, and cannot wait for our first container to arrive later this year.

The RS dealer meeting was a great opportunity to connect, get up to speed on the latest developments, and help plan for the future. We’re proud to represent this builder here in the U.S. and look forward to continuing to get more sailors on the water in their exciting and innovative boats. Huge thank you to Riki, Pip, and Jon from RS headquarters in Southampton for making the trip and putting on a fantastic meeting for us. We’re lucky to know and work with some of the best people in this industry! We work hard to help you enjoy your time on the water. Sometimes we even like to have a little fun =)
