What’s Happening @ West Coast Sailing

Boats, boats and more boats! Over the past few weeks the warehouse has been in a constant cycle of deliveries, prep, rigging, and loading of boats for customers and clubs all over! It’s amazing what a few weeks of sunny skies can do to help shake off the winter cold and get excited for sailing again!

The main even this month was the Strictly Sail Pacific Boat Show in Oakland, CA. Chris and George were on hand to represent WCS and the RS Racing line of boats. As North America’s fastest growing small boat brand, RS Racing is on everyone’s minds lately and our booth was the place to be! A big thanks to everyone who came out to see us, check out the boats, and support your favorite small boat sailing store.

While West Coast Sailing will always remain 100% focused on small boat sailing, we wanted the opportunity to offer you a full selection of products from all of our key vendors. You can now find parts locators for all Hobie catamarans and Island Series kayaks on our web store. We’re working hard to add individual parts so you can simply click add to cart, but until then you can use these locators to figure out which parts you need. West Coast Sailing launches it’s new site!

 

 

 

In the midst of moving into a HUGE NEW warehouse,  arrivals of new boats and apparel, and the day to day grind of answering phones and processing orders – we have been hard at work behind the scenes. We’re happy to announce the release of our new website!  We hope this site will provide an improved online experience for customers near and far and continue to be a go to source for all things small boat sailing. In addition to a fresh look and feel, users should find it easier to navigate our web store, locate the products they need, and complete purchases. The less time you spend searching means the more time you spend sailing!

1. One-Click Add to Cart – Know exactly what you’re looking for? Use the new add to cart feature to -  easily select size and color options – with minimal clicks.

In addition to these features, users can count on – frequent content updates – related to products, rigging, and general sailing resources, an even more secure back-end security platform, and overall improvements to site speed. Additional back-end improvements will make it easier for our team to process and ship orders, ensuring product arrives quickly.

We must offer a huge thanks to the team at Forix, a web design and development firm right here in Portland, for their hard work and seeing this project through from start to finish. They took our overall vision and list of features and created a website we can all be proud of. Nicely done!

While we are confident all initial bugs have been resolved, we thank you for your patience and understanding in advance if any problems you may encounter. We’ll be working hard to make sure everything works as it should – we’re always just a phone call or email away.

Regatta Insight with Brendan Casey

Brendan Casey of Sail Equipment Australia stopped by West Coast Sailing to show us new product and talk about some key events coming up this year. We asked Brendan to give us some local insight on what to expect and how to dress for the 2012 Laser Master World Championships taking place March 9th to March 17th in Brisbane, Australia. Here is what he had to say:

 


The Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is a fantastic venue and, as Brendan points out, sailors can expect beautiful, warm conditions for this years Laser Master Worlds. Dressing appropriately for warm weather sailing requires pieces which place an emphasis on keeping the body cool and protected from the sun. The popular Airprene Hikers, available in knee or 3/4 length with either shoulder braces or the waist-lock system, are made from a perforated neoprene to increase breath-ability and allow water to cool your skin. Among SEA’s most successful pieces, they are a must have for any active sailor and a staff favorite here at West Coast Sailing.

 

The long sleeve Wetshirt makes a great choice for upper body protection. With 50+ UV protection, this 4 way stretch Spanflex top will keep you cool and protected in the warmest conditions. It also works great as a layer underneath any of SEA’s tops, such as the Metalite Hottop or Ultra Warm Top. We have a great selection of these and other SEA sailing products and look forward to helping you find the next piece for your kit.
