Another Weekend – Another Road Trip! We hit the road again this weekend and landed in Vancouver B.C. to deliver some new Tasars.
Start off in Portland (this photo starts to seem familiar!)
End up at Jericho Sailing Center in Vancouver, B.C. The skies cleared up, sun was out. There were people EVERYWHERE
Beautiful day and HEAPS of people everywhere watching the action. Seriously cool to see so many people hanging around the dinghy park.

We were on the road again this weekend, this time in support of Western Regional Semi Finals for College Sailing.
If that sounds like a mouthful, it’s the event that qualifies 9 of 18 teams for Nationals.

Loading up, the trailer with a 29er on the roof for good measure

Cold and blustery with decent breeze. Cold weather items were popular !
Fancy new tent this year and new display racks.

Interior of the trailer lined with goodies.

We’re pleased to announce that we’re the Western North America Distributor for RS Sailboats!
(that’s a mouthful!)
Basically, this means we’ll be supplying RS Boats to dealers and programs throughout the west!

We’ve sold the RS boats for many years, but we will now be bringing them in direct from the factory in the U.K.

Several programs have already signed on to buy Teras and Fevas for youth sailing

Some Canadian programs have started fleets of RS500s as well.
We’ve got two customers who pre-ordered the new RS100
The RS Feva is one of our most popular boats that we sell.
Visit the RS Sailing website for a full overview of their boats at www.RSSailing.com

The Laser Cockpit Auto-Bailer has always been a sore subject for Laser sailors everywhere. When new, the bailer functions very well, pulling water quickly out of the Laser cockpit. Over time though, the little o-rings inside the bailer break down and stop working, leaving the bailer chute constantly open and dragging in the water. That problem, finally, is over: Auto-Bailer Springs
It may not look like much, but this $9 upgrade could be the best money spent on the Laser all season!
The o-rings don’t work very well because they are not designed to be stretched and relaxed time and again. They break down quickly and then the bailer is non-functional. Springs however, are designed and built exactly for this task.

Installation of the new bailer springs is easy, with the springs color coded for port and starboard sides. Longer lasting, smoother action and a part purpose built for the job!

Well, 2010 has been rocking so far and it’s not sailing season until we’re rolling up and down I-5 too.
We hit Laser Mid-Winters West last weekend in Richmond, CA. From there we went to Fresno, CA and delivered a new RS Vision.
After that a stop in Alameda to drop off a Bladerider. 1800miles in 4 days….
Loaded up and ready to hit the road at 7am! Laser on top, Vision on a flatbed trailer, moth on top. Dollies, spars and blade bags in the back.
Some of the boats at Cal Sailing Club – what a wild and fun place!
Visited Cal Sailing Club on a beautiful, sunny if light wind day. Crane launching the Vision (a first for me) and off they went!
Two unnamed (well, we know their names, but you know…) individuals enjoying a windless hour on SF Bay. This is a guy skiing on a LASER CENTERBOARD. Seriously!
A customer on the maiden voyage of their new RS Vision – deep in the central valley of California!

The Laser Class has been testing new Fiberglass Rudder and Daggerboards for a few years.
With the latest improvements, the new molded Epoxy Blades are now class legal and ready for use! We saw finished product at the Performance Sailcraft Australia factory last year, and will now be importing a limited number of sets for North America.

These new foils are more durable than the current foam filled foils! The leading and trailing edges are straight. The boards are strong and much more durable! While they shouldn’t make the boat any faster (they bend the same as the old blades to protect the one design of the boat), they should be a better finished product out of the box.

You can read some more information on the product from an Australian Laser Builder Article.
We are selling both the foils together (Daggerboard and Rudder blade, no rudder head). First shipment is going to have a special price of $850 for the set with normal retail of $950 going forward.

We have a HUGE selection of Gear Bags – 2010 brings out some new designs with new features.
The new Zhik Backpack is really slick. It sits on your back nicely and is packed with a laptop slot, drink holder, soft sunglasses pouch, and includes a separate dry bag to keep the wet gear in… Nice!
The Gill Cargo Bag is a perennial best seller. Simple, effective and lightweight, the Cargo Bag can haul all the gear, with vented pockets on the outside and a big compartment inside. Large padded shoulder strap makes schlepping it to the boat easy.
The Henri Lloyd Bag is a sleek, modern and simple bag. Waterproof with taped seems and a super durable outer shell.

Finally, if you are looking for economy, the Ronstan Gear Bag has been updated for 2010, still under $50!

Unless you’re on the East Coast of the US, you can likely see signs that summer is coming along. We’ve already had a few days of 60F weather and bright sunny skies! 17 Lasers were on the line last Sunday here in town, in the middle of February! Nice!

As we said in the newsletter:
NOW is the time to check your boat out to get ready for 2010!
Some of our vendors the last few years have had trouble with having inventory on hand. We work pretty hard to cover that shortfall with our own huge stock of parts, but it’s best to plan ahead!

If you are thinking of a new boat, we’ve got a lot going on at the moment with big orders coming together from Bic Sport, RS, Laser Performance and more!
